This series is based on the backyard of my childhood home. It was a small suburban backyard lot – but it had access to canals that weaved through neighborhoods on the south shore of Long Island in Massapequa, NY, leading out into the Great South Bay, and eventually to the Atlantic Ocean.
The images are quite different in appearance from the actual place, but the slate ground patio lined with arborvitae bushes serve as a template. The filter of memory creates a new take on this once familiar place, where the bushes have been removed, and the original house has been replaced.
